Have you ever pay $30 for a taxi ride? Is taking a cab now really worth your money? What’s angry is that you obviously know that the journey does not cost that much, and it’s the taxi drivers who are purposely taking the long route to earn more of your hard earned money! $30 for a trip! That’s really ridiculous!
My friends and i have encountered several similar incidents whereby the taxi uncles purposely take the long route, taking advantage on the fact that we do not know the area well. It’s really low! Ain’t that no difference than conning people? Well, we all know that this is a period whereby everyone in the world is facing global recession, but such period should not be affecting your professionalism and integrity in work. Am i right?
We all know that in every occupation, there are bound to be some black sheeps lurking around. Well, i met helpful and honest taxi drivers before too! So please don’t get wrong idea that every taxi uncles are “conman” or you can say “money suckers”. We know that making money is hard, especially for taxi drivers. They have to pay for rentals, and sometimes they only manage to make back the money just nice to pay for the rental, resulting in ZERO revenue for the day.
Actually, we could relate this using a food chain examples. Fuel prices increases -> Taxi rental increases -> Taxi fare increases ->passengers pay more. So ultimately, damn it, we are the ones that are being eaten.
Taxi companies are also making a killing nowadays!. Imagine each taxi drivers pay $70 rental a day to them each day, one month they earned $2100. Let’s say there are 500 drivers under their company, they are making $1050,000 monthly!!! Why can’t the taxi fares be lowered? Why can’t those companies view their stand from a passenger perspective? Why can’t taxi rentals be lowered?
I believe doing so will solve many problems, what do you think?

Even if one day the flag rate is at $3.50 or $4, there will still be people taking this taxi public transport.
What can we do? We can only “suck thumb”. This is life
But honestly, it might not be the taxi driver fault. After deducting $70 rental per day + petrol.. Taxi driver might not earn that much. Hence, we can see where the fault lies at.

Is there not a way to make a formal complaint? I know that in other countries there are Taxi Driver Associations that drivers can join to show they don’t resort to such tactics. There is also the option of complaining to the city council or government department that issues their operating license. Your input could prevent them from getting a renewal in future of it if there are enough complaints submitted.
Of course, most people like to complain rather than take action. It’s what the bad pennies rely on most - apathy.
