gingerlimeThe wonderful healing and restorative properties of plants can hardly be denied. The kitchen shelf often provides an inexpensive way to cure many ailments. Some herbs prove to be especially efficacious in healing many ailments. Here’s a list of them

Ginger-One of the best and most popular kitchen remedies ginger has been used since time immemorial through all cultures and in all parts of the world. Ginger helps in reducing intestinal contractions, neutralizes digestive acids and inhibits the vomiting centre in the brain. If you suffer from travel sickness have a quarter teaspoon of powdered ginger an hour before you begin your journey.

Ginger is also supposed to help in migraine, if you take a third of a teaspoon of powdered or fresh ginger at the first sign of migraine may help mitigate the pain. I had been advised to take ginger juice with honey in my attack of severe broncho-pneumonia by my doctor. Ginger blocks the body’s production of substances that lead to bronchial constriction and fever. Gingerols present in ginger naturally suppress cough. Ginger can be taken fresh or powdered. You can also have ginger tea which is extremely beneficial.

Vaseline-Petroleum jelly is known more as Vaseline and is effective in all skin related ailments. It is an effective treatment against dry skin problems.

Mustard-Mustard is extremely efficacious in loosening mucous. Mustard poultice applied on the chest acts as a traditional decongestant. Add a few tablespoons of crushed mustard seeds to a cup of flour along with a little water to make a paste. Be sure to protect the skin by applying a thick coat of petroleum jelly. Don’t leave the paste on for more than 15 minutes or your skin will burn. Wash your hands thoroughly after touching mustard poultice. Soaking your feet in warm water with a little water can unblock head cold, help reduce fever and soothe a headache.

Lemon- The many advantages of lemon can hardly be overemphasized. It is a rich source of vitamin C.
