stompHave you being stomped because you done some “strange stuffs” in the public? Like, eating food in MRT train? Using profanity in public? Or kicking a dog downstairs ? LOL Ok enough of that, Stomp is a interactive website created by Singapore Press Holdings to promote citizen journalism. Citizen journalism is a term used to annotate the contribution of press, news by the users ( us ) without professional training as a journalist.

I heard of this particular website from my friend some time ago and was then following it up till now. Well, i have to admit that there are really interesting news contributed by our fellow singaporeans, not to mention, there are junk news as well. When i first heard of this idea, i am amazed by it. Seeing something, taking a photo and mms to the hotline, and then “Tada”, your news appeared online!. Something really new & interesting at that point of time. However, as time passes, i feel that alot of people are misusing this internet service. Like using Stomp as a way for revenge to their friends? E.g. There’s this guy in your class that you hate, you took a picture of his girlfriend and him on the back of the bus and you stomped it and say they were doing “XXXX” in bus. Twisting the facts and showing photos and explode to thousands of netizens? Seems to be a pretty nice technique.

Actually, i feel that the Stomp team can do a better job in managing Stomp, like introducing some more features like:

  • A “rating system” that users can rate whether they believe or not believe this piece of news.
So if the rating is over 90%, people can choose to believe in it etc. Let the users do the say. We are not talking about a few people here. But thousands of people. Do you the majority of thousands of people can be wrong?
  • A system that allows users to “Like it” or “Hate It”
Of course, i am sure not all of netizens like every piece of news, so by introducing this feature, you can know what the users really like to see!

These are just 2 random simple features that i believe can make stomp more effective and successful. Ok, continuing this article, do you think that majority of the stompers are stalkers? Ok, i just browse stomp and saw this “News of the day.” It’s regarding a couple getting intimate in the train.

I dont know how the stomper is able to get his photo at such a nice angle. LOL. I think it’s not really respectful of that. Such pieces are news are not alien to stomp, i seen it quite a few times and those are the news that i rated “junk” because it does not open any quality discussion. I believe that’s not the kind of news that SPH wanted when they first develop STOMP. Taking such photo ain’t different from being a stalker?

Therefore, in my own opinion, i think that to make STOMP a better place and “save it” from the way it’s quality is deterioriating, i think the team can do a better job and maybe introduce some guidelines for the type of news that is being published. Do you agree or not agree with me? Make your stand below!

it’s hard to believe that STOMP, is ran by graduates and degree holders who in the first place ought to be journalist.

seems like STOMP has gone too far, so what if people were to get intimate and kiss in trains, these people need a life, they are not flouting any rules, and by doing that they could at least help singapore get a baby mah.

STOMPers need a life, so many rubbish news, for me, no video=no talk.

I think stomp is a great concept, however extra features can be implemented to make it better than it is now.
