The Essentials of Career Growth

We all know about the essentials of getting ahead in our careers and we all have done things at one time or another for career growth and we continue to do so. What if a youngster were to approach you and ask, what are the essentials of growth?

Here are some things that you must do to attain professional growth:

Wear a grey or blue suit and a nice red or yellow tie with blue dots, or possibly a stripe, this is the way you are expected to dress in business even if your peers are not doing so, and if you are a lady then wear a grey or blue suit and a nice red or yellow silk scarf that has a serious pattern, nothing outlandish. To whatever sex you belong carry a soft briefcase

Never say what you really think, say what people want to hear, with a little bit of what you think thrown in. This is not as tough as it sounds, to be honest almost all of us are a bit diplomatic and there is no harm if you get the approval from your seniors. Try being a good listener to ascertain what they actually want to hear.

Remember the golden rule it is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice, if you have to act tough with somebody, don’t overdo it and if you have a choice of getting somebody out of a scrap or getting them stuck, do the former. People will think of you as someone who deserves to win and be happy about your success.

Do not sacrifice personal life for work. People who are with you at all times or people who are going to be with you even when you stop working are the people you should not ignore just because you suddenly feel very important at work.

Be patient with people who are elder to you, remember they were educated at a different time and may not have as much exposure to technology as you.

Be clear about your strengths and weaknesses. Clearly understand what are your strong point and your grey areas. This way others will not be able to work on your weaknesses.

Try not to be a one man army, share work and delegate tasks meant for others to them, otherwise others will push their work on you.

Accept the success of others gracefully. If you worry why another person succeeded you will only spoil your happiness.

Be loyal even if people are not appreciating you. Loyalty and integrity is noticed in a strange way.

A common mistake is blaming others for you mistakes avoid it.

Last and the most important thing is enjoy your work and have fun. If you don’t enjoy your work you will only spread gloominess and people will see you as a person who always cribs and avoid you.
