You vs Another You

split_personalityHave you ever had the experience of being a different person based on the situation or environment that you’re in?

Take for instance, being in school, you may just be another introvert school student, who only smile and promptly submit homework. However, at home, your way of living somehow took a 360degree turn, especially when you enter into the virtual world.

Or maybe, you may just be another unhappy staff striving and struggling at work, while at home you’re quite a happy man, laughing your socks off while watching the 8pm comedy television show which you’ll never want to miss.

Interestingly, we often “transform” ourselves according to the roles that we’re given, and gradually, this has indirectly causes us to have various personality.

The inner voice within us versus the outer appearance of who others will see, the heart versus the mind, the thoughts versus the thinking, the various side of personality that battles, and the list goes on….

I believe many have heard of many cases whereby how some online gamers behaved in games - spurting vulgarities and going around like a brave hero, when during real life, their personality totally oppose the former!

Through this, I infer that many of us have actually unknowingly allowed roles to overtake who we really are, and honestly, I myself can not really weigh whether is this a harm or a positive way in life.

I do have many situations whereby I feel I reacted differently, and at times, baffled with the way why do I vary my attitude base on situation? Am I losing myself day by day? Or am I just playing my role and doing my part?

Till to date, these question has never been answered. Or maybe, it wasn’t meant to be answered in the first place.

Perhaps, in the initial stage, it doesn’t matter whether we’re playing our role or just being ourselves.
Perhaps, all along, everyone of us has just got another side of us.
Perhaps, the angel-devil do really exist… unknowingly to us.
Perhaps… there isn’t perhaps at all.

Nevertheless, a thought is a thought, and thoughts may generate some controversial topic, like this.

Have this.. ever crossed your mind?

This is an really inspiring topic to discuss. I think that everyone of us has at least 2 different sides. One is what you show publicly, second is what you show to your close friends & family members. I have such experiences too. For example, i use profanity when i am with my close friends, but not with my family and friends i don’t know that well. I guess that’s consider 2 sides?

Have you guys ever discover the different sides of your friends? Your friend may not really be what he/she really! Yes, i agree with you that we may feel different in certain situation. i.e, i may be serious and stern when i am at work, but i can be as funny as possible at my leisure times.

Everyone does it, albeit perhaps not consciously. How much of it is to hide our true selves is another question. In truth, I think most of us just want to fit in.

You wouldn’t go to an interview and start cussing like a sailor the way you might do amongst friends. We grow up learning about boundaries and what’s acceptable where and when. That’s more to do with self preservation than hiding your evil twin. ;) Good piece!
